It creates a protective layer in the soil, inhibiting weed seed germination and early growth, without affecting the main crop. It belongs to Dinitroaniline group of herbicides which acts by inhibiting the root growth by disruption of cell division and elongation. After the application it quickly spread on soil. It alters in the cell wall formation in both root and shoot resulting in plant death by lack of new cell formation.
